an update

If for some reason you’ve been under a rock (I don’t mean that unkindly, by the way) and haven’t heard, we are moving back to Kentucky on November 3. God has blessed us much during our time in New Mexico (one of the most beautiful states in America, I think) with great friends, a great church family, and great food (LOL), to say the least. However, we have affirmation that God is drawing our time here to a close and for that reason will be headed back east very soon.

If you could remember our family in prayer during this time, we would greatly appreciate it. Our biggest request: for the quick sale of our home!

Happy Mother’s Day!

In case I don’t get time to post tomorrow, I wanted to say Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mommies out there. Enjoy your day. You make such a difference- don’t forget that!

And a little secret for you…

come closer…

a little closer…

are you ready?

Baby King #4 is due to make an appearance January 2009! We would covet your prayers as we once again set out on this wonderful blessed journey. I am so thankful! Thank you Jesus!

randoms (this always happens when I am in the mood to write, but have no content…)

  1. Turkey bacon is superbly yummy!
  2. We watched Juno last night. I wanted to see it because of my slight obsession with anything having to do with pregnancy and childbirth. David said he was surprised (I think that was the word he used) that I wanted to see it because of it’s storyline (teen pregnancy, abortion). I was curious, however, at how Hollywood was looking at said topics these days so we rented it. I was sad, of course, because of how lightly “big” issues were handled in the film and of course saddened because it was a sad situation. The movie has a very Napoleon Dynamite feel to it. It is hiliarious. I think there were parts of it where I laughed because the humor was random and senseless, but there were also times that I was tempted to laugh at sin. And for that reason, I wouldn’t watch it again. This movie is a wonderful resource for church leaders, especially teenage leaders, because teens really think this way. At one point David said: “What is sad is that this is true.”
  3. Simon has learned to unload the dishwasher. He really holds me accountable in a strange kind of way because if I don’t unload it first thing in the morning, he will be in the knives.
  4. Noah now thinks he’s Jesus. He asked me to “died” (kill) him last night because he is Jesus and he has to die.
  5. The boys don’t play Follow The Leader. They play a rather “messed up” version called Jesus and the Disciple. Whoever leads (Noah, of course) says “I am Jesus!” and Sammy calls out “and I am the disciple!” Sometimes it gets weird though when Sammy says he is the criminal or the cross. Eek.
  6. I am dying to get my hands on a copy of some R.C. Sproul books: The Holiness of God and The Priest with Dirty Clothes. I am hearing great things! I think they’re old books. It usually takes me a while to get wind of a good thing=)
  7. We are starting a new book with the boys today! I was waiting til they got a little older and now they are so intrigued by Jesus that I think it’s a good time to start it. It is called The Big Book of Questions and Answers by Sinclair Ferguson. I know they may not “get” it, but it’s all about instilling it, right? I bought this book a year ago at Grace Community Church’s bookstore when I was in California. I was hoping David could go through it with us (and maybe he can join us later on), but he is so busy it just isn’t possible.
  8. I have a new laundry routine and it really helps. I am the world’s worst for washing and drying laundry and never folding it and putting it away. The new plan: I throw in a load at bedtime and when I wake up in the morning I throw it in the dryer (it will not mildew over night- at least in NM where we have no humidity). By 8 or 9 a.m. the load is dry. I am most motivated to do my housework in the mornings so this is helping me to ensure it gets done.
  9. I started The Shack yesterday. I figure if I am going to pretend to know something about a book, I should actually read it.
  10. I don’t have to cook dinner as it is Wednesday. YAY! YAY! YAY! Did I say YAY?
  11. If you haven’t tried the new Townhouse FlipSides Pretzel Crackers, you are sincerely missing out! They are only like the greatest crackers ever! And I am not a cracker person. They don’t really help with my fitness routine, however.
  12. I am meeting a friend at 10:30 so the kids can play. This means I should probably be focusing on my housekeeping and not composing a senseless blog post.
  13. I bought two new Sovereign Grace CDs: Come Weary Saints and Songs for the Cross-Centered Life. They are A-W-E-S-O-M-E!
  14. David bought Stepping Heavenward for the teenage girls who are graduating next month. I think that makes me love him more.
  15. Lastly, we got a new answering machine. So if you call us you can actually leave a message! Isn’t technology amazing?! And…you must call to hear Noah’s message=) Just make sure we’re not home!

Jury Duty Update Update!

Dad, you were SO wrong!

I called and they laughed at my first question: “Am I going to jail?”

So…the Magistrate Court has informed me that I need to bring my summons to the courthouse as soon as possible and explain why I could not attend jury duty. Yay! I will be around to see Simon’s 2nd birthday!

FYI

If you happen to run upon me switching backgrounds on my page day by day, it’s because I can’t find one that I really like. So…I might be done. I might not. You never know what you’ll find when you stumble upon this page=)

Excellent Household Tips!

A sealed envelope – Put in the freezer for a few hours, then slide a knife under the flap. The envelope can then be resealed.

Use Empty toilet paper roll to store appliance cords
. It keeps them neat and you can write on the roll what appliance it belongs to.

For icy door steps in freezing temperatures: get warm water and put Dawn dish washing liquid in it. Pour it all over the steps. They won’t refreeze.

To remove old wax from a glass candle holder, put it in the freezer for a few hours. Then take the candle holder out and turn it upside down. The wax  will  fall out.

Crayon marks on walls? A damp rag, dipped in baking soda. Comes off with little effort.

Permanent marker on appliances/counter tops?  Rubbing alcohol on paper towel.

Whenever you purchase a box of S.O.S Pads, take a pair of scissors and cut each pad into halves.  After years of having to throw away rusted and unused and smelly pads, this will be much more economical.  Now a box of S.O.S pads last indefinitely!  In fact, the scissors get ’sharpened” this way!

Blood stains on clothes?  Not to worry!  Just pour a little hydrogen peroxide on a cloth and proceed to wipe off every drop of blood. Works every time!

Use vertical strokes when washing windows outside and horizontal for inside windows. This way you can tell which side has the streaks. Straight vinegar will get outside windows really clean. Don’t wash windows on a sunny day.  They will dry too quickly and will probably streak.

Spray a bit of perfume on the light bulb in any room to create a lovely light scent in each room when the light  is turned on.

Place fabric softener sheets in dresser drawers and your clothes will smell freshly washed for weeks to come. You can also do this with towels and linen.

Candles will last a lot longer if placed in the freezer for at least  3 hours prior to burning.

To clean artificial flowers, pour some salt into a paper bag and add the flowers. Shake vigorously as the salt will absorb all the dust and dirt and leave your artificial flowers looking like new! Works like a charm!

To easily remove burnt on food from your skillet, simply add a drop or two of dish soap and enough water to cover bottom of pan, and bring to a boil on stove top.

Spray your TUPPERWARE with nonstick cooking spray before pouring in tomato-based sauces and there won’t be any stains.

Wrap celery in aluminum foil when putting in the refrigerator and it will keep for weeks.

When boiling corn on the cob, add a pinch of sugar to help bring out the corn’s natural sweetness

Cure for headaches: Take a lime, cut it in half, and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go away.

To get rid of itch from mosquito bites, try applying soap on the area and you will experience instant relief.

Ants, ants, ants everywhere …They are said to never cross a chalk line. So, get your chalk out and draw a line on the floor or wherever ants tend to march. See for yourself.

Use air-freshener to clean mirrors. It does a good job and better still, leaves a lovely smell to the shine.

When you get a splinter, reach for the scotch tape before resorting to tweezers or a needle. Simply put the scotch tape over the splinter, and then pull it off. Scotch tape removes most splinters painlessly and easily.

Now look what you can do with Alka Seltzer……..

Clean a toilet.  Drop in two Alka Seltzer tablets, wait twenty minutes, brush and flush.
The citric acid and effervescent action clean vitreous China

Clean a vase. To remove a stain from the bottom of a glass vase or cruet, fill with water and drop in two Alka Seltzer tablets.

Polish jewelry. Drop two Alka Seltzer tablets into a glass of water and immerse the jewelry  for two minutes.

Clean a thermos bottle. Fill the bottle with water, drop in four Alka Seltzer tablets, and let soak for an hour  (or longer, if necessary).

Unclog a drain. Clear the sink drain by dropping three Alka Seltzer tablets down the drain  followed by a cup of Heinz White Vinegar. Wait a few minutes, and then run the hot water.

(Makes you wonder about ingesting Alka Seltzer, doesn’t it?)

The Best in Modest Apparel

Great sales going on at my two favorite online sites:

Shade Clothing

DownEast Basics

Be sure to check out Shade’s baby tee. I have like 5 and love them. A tip: order a size larger than you would normally wear at Shade in anything made with 100% cotton. Order as you normally would if it’s a cotton or poly blend.

Check out DownEast’s jewelry- so cute! I would also kill for their Harmony dress!

Happy shopping! Especially you, Kacie. I know how much you love to shop!

Just my luck!

It’s cold here. I’m mean…cold.

I ordered a good coat the other day (for the first time in a long time) and the sizing chart told me what it believed would be the best size for me. I took their advice reluctantly and received the coat today. And so it goes…the sleeves are way too long (and I am tall) and I could almost wrap it around me twice.

I really needed the coat, but instead of getting to nuzzle up in it today, I slapped on the return label and shall wait on its return. Only problem? Now it says the size I originally wanted is unavailable. Great. I guess I’ll be on the phone with customer service this afternoon.

Hooray!

Moving…*sigh* I am exhausted…seriously!

We got our internet back up today and I am thrilled. I never realize how dependent I am upon on it until it is gone. I felt like I had lost my true love=)

This shall be short. I actually have all 3 kiddos asleep and a mug of dark hot chocolate awaits me…with marshmallows!

Vicks VapoRub phenomenon

Has anyone tried this:

Vicks VapoRub. On the feet. It sounds crazy, but nearly everyone I know that has tried it has said it is amazing. Your child (or you) is coughing. You put VapoRub on their feet and cover them with socks. Within 5 minutes, they stop coughing. And they don’t start again.

I feel bad, but I am kinda ready for one of the boys to get a cold so I can try it. Ok, maybe I could just wish illness on myself and try it that way.
