I think John Piper has done a great job articulating some of the things I have been thinking but didn’t quite know how to convey. I enjoyed listening to his perspective.

john piper on the election
so I lied
I said I was done with election posts. I don’t really guess this is an election post but, in a sense, it is. I saw this video at Between Two Worlds this morning. I liked what Justin Taylor had to say about the need to see it:
“The following video is very painful to watch–but I believe it is necessary as a reminder that we are not discussing abstract policies and arguments but rather innocent lives being systematically killed”
Here is the video.
Obama, Abortion, and Infanticide
This will most likely be my sole post on election issues. If I am being honest, I don’t really feel much toward either candidate. I don’t like to talk about the election and the only reason my oldest son even has any idea who either man is is because of the countless TV ads.
But I cannot be quiet about this. I suppose I am what they call a “single-issue voter”- and I am okay with that. Abortion strikes straight to my heart and evokes a nausea and disgust that I cannot even begin to adequately explain.
My friend, Heather, posted these videos today. I feel compelled to share them. With all things, I recognize that everything is biased. But, especially on the second video, you hear the exact words of Barack Obama. It’s hard to argue that something was taken out of context when you are hearing the exact words of the candidate.
There’s nothing more sickening than watching these videos (especially the first one), feeling your unborn baby move within you, all the while knowing that, despite the fact he will have a chance to live, millions will not.
Two perspectives
I have had a difficult time figuring out where I stand with John McCain’s choice for VP. While I have the utmost respect for Sarah Palin, this choice of a candidate begs the question: is a woman holding the position of vice-president unbiblical? I have read countlessarticles and chosen not to say much about it, but at this point I would love to point you to two different articles, by two different organizations, both of which I deeply respect. I hope you enjoy them. I did. Here is one. Here is the other.
P.S. I still haven’t made up my mind completely. But at this point, I am thinking the issue isn’t so much one of whether it is wrong for a woman to be vice-president (or president for the that matter), but more whether she would be capable of fulfilling her role of a wife and mother first and foremost (especially in this season of her life) and still be vice-president. Any thoughts?

Election ‘08 Help!
Does anyone know of a website that I can go to that will give me a list of where each candidate stands on all the different issues out there? Thanks in advance!
A great review
New movie The Golden Compass has been an area of great concern the past few weeks. Albert Mohler presents a great review of the movie. Click here to read.
A Fond Farewell
at least geographically.
We head out today for KY!!! Woo hoo! I will still be online, but probably absent for the next day or so. We will be in Denver tonight and fly east tomorrow.
We are so looking forward to some quality and sweet, sweet time spent with family and friends!
LOL…I think it’s funny I filed this under “current events.” I didn’t know what else to use=)
9/11
Each year as this day comes and goes, I often wonder if the intensity of the hurt that I feel towards those families of victims will have subsided at all. I am finding, however, that each year the impact of that day remains the same. I have always said that this day is what the Kennedy assassination was to my parents. Perhaps worse?
I always think back to where I was that morning (in my college dorm), what I was doing (walking to the shower), and who told me (my friend Kristian- she and her fiancee at the time thought that a plane had just accidentally ran into the tower). I remember the day passing and the eeriness of seeing my chemistry prof lose her composure and dismiss class and the silence that loomed as students quietly walked from class to class. I remember my mom calling and saying “come home!” and having to tell her “no”; that I would rather be with my then boyfriend of 6 months or so LOL (later to become my husband). I just felt safe with him.
A few months ago (after my flying for the summer was done), I made myself watch United 93. I think every American should have to watch that movie. As I sat though the movie (by myself), I cried from the very second it began. It reminded me of almost every one of my prior flying experiences. What seemed like such a normal day turned into such horror. It was sickening (even though it was a movie and not the real thing) to watch the terrorists board the plane and to know what they were going to do to those people- all in the name of God?
I am so blessed to know that I don’t serve such a God. Such a God doesn’t exist, to be honest. No Holy and good God would tell his children to destroy life and to inflict pain in that way. It all comes back to the enemy. And our sin. And deception. The majority of our world is deceived and the worship of a false god (or gods) fills our society. This day should serve as a day of remembrance. But it should also serve as a reminder to pray for those around us. Praise be to the God who saves and heals hurt and pain! On such a day as today we can still praise. We can praise despite tragedy because we serve a God who is on His throne! He never hid His face as those horrific events unfolded. He knew every person who lost their lives…and loved them. I am so glad I worship a God who is, not in the grave, but reigning over all!
More On Minneapolis
My mom and dad (well, I as well) know a man who fell off the bridge last week. Here is his story. His parents go to church with my parents.
