meaning behind the name

A couple people have asked:

“What does Caedmon (or Kaedmon) mean?”

Good question.

I blindly assumed because Caedmon’s Call was a Christian band then of course the name was in the Bible. I was wrong.

Wikipedia says.

Now isn’t that funny?

No- we’re not going to rename him. We think this will be a hilarious story when he grows older. “Yes, son, we thought we were giving you a beautiful Biblical name. But really, you’re a cow herder. Sorry.”

It does, in fact, mean “wise warrior.” So that’s nice.

simon

Please remember my little man this morning. We are going in to the doctor at 10:45 because since yesterday one of Simon’s earlobes has been swollen two times the size of the other one. It has some scabs on it so we are a little concerned something bit him. Our biggest concern: that something is in his ear. Please say a little prayer for him this morning!

UPDATE:

Thankfully, Simon just had some type of reaction to either an allergen or a bite. He was in the yard with David a lot of Saturday so his doctor seems to think that is the culprit. A few days of medicine and he should be tops again.

Thanks!

boys

I love my boys. Here are some pics from this morning:

And, in regards to our newest addition, we have chosen a name:

Kaedmon Gatliff King

I know, I know, it’s a little different. We got Kaedmon from the group Caedmon’s Call. I always loved it. We switched it to a “K” because we thought it looked nice with our last name. Gatliff is a family name on David’s side. We’ll call him Kaed, I’m sure.

And tonight, at 18 weeks (David says I look afraid of the camera. I must concur, but have no idea why):

some morning thoughts

since 2 of my 3 children woke me up arguing about trains (and I am not quite coherent yet):

  1. Rice Krispies are just better with sugar in them. Healthy, no. Better, yes.
  2. I’m getting my hair cut on Friday. It’s about time. I am tired of bobby pinning the bangs back.
  3. I need my roots done as well, but that’s going to have to wait a little longer.
  4. How come at this stage in pregnancy you will feel baby move all day one day and then not at all for the next three days? It’s rather unnerving. Maybe the sugar from the Rice Krispies will help?
  5. David is preaching Sunday morning in a couple weeks. I am so excited! I love when he preaches!
  6. Speaking of church, David and I are cooking WNS (Wednesday Night Supper) tonight. In my fatigued state, I have decided upon frozen lasagna and garlic bread. I hope they weren’t expecting anything from scratch. And even if I weren’t fatigued, it’s really difficult to cook for 90 people with 3 kids running between your legs, asking for “bites”, and telling you there’s a bear on the playground (ok, just kidding about the last one, but we have had a lot of bears in the neighborhood during the daytime lately).
  7. We started a new small group for the teenagers. They asked for something more “grown-up” (how awesome is that?!) so we started C.J. Mahaney’s “Why Small Groups?” They love it! And so do we! I wish we would have had it last year when we initially started small groups- I have been doing things so wrong!
  8. I worked the old triceps a little too hard at the gym yesterday. It’s not so easy to type this morning. Or lift. Or breathe LOL.
  9. I have had a couple contractions over the last few days (don’t worry- it happens with all my pregnancies). The pain (and it wasn’t even real labor) absolutely mortified me that I have even considered natural childbirth this time around. We’ll see what happens.
  10. I have 3 loads of laundry to fold. I must be going. Today is a what I call a pivotal day in laundry. It can go either way. If I fold and put away the clothes this morning, I’ll be fine. If I let it go another day, I’ll be in trouble- big laundry trouble!

more kid stuff

As we speak, my oldest two children are arguing in the dining room floor about the size of Jesus’ cross. Noah has informed Samuel that the crosses of the criminals can’t be near as large as Jesus’. His explanation:

“Their crosses didn’t forgive your sins!”

Wow. He’s getting there. Slowly, but surely.

my first box day (as all the other gals call it)

Our math books came today! I am so excited I think I wanted to do them myself. They really look like they won’t be much of a challenge for Noah, but maybe I am overestimating his intelligence LOL! We’ll see! Now we wait for the rest!

manners, good and otherwise

Recently the boys and I checked out a book from the library called Manners In Public. The boys love the book and now spend much of their day asking me if something is good manners or bad. As follows is this morning’s conversation:

Noah: “Mommy, if I threw a cactus at someone, would that be bad manners?”

Me: (laughing) “Yes.”

Noah: “Funny manners?”

Me: (Trying to contain myself) “No.”

Noah: “Just bad?”

Me: “Yes, Noah, just bad.”

A Little Boy

We are becoming quite the experts at boys! Our fourth son looks very healthy and we can’t wait to meet him. He has much much growing to do so we’ll let him hang out in there for quite a while longer!

Thanks for all the prayers and if I can ever figure out the whole scanning process I’ll upload the pictures!
